Panel Discussion on ‘AI Impact Summit - Shaping the Future of Responsible Innovation’

The Consulate General of India in Hong Kong and Macau SARs organized a panel discussion titled “AI Impact Summit – Shaping the Future of Responsible Innovation.” The event opened with welcome remarks by Consul General Rajesh Naik, followed by a keynote address by H.E. Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat, Ambassador of India to the People’s Republic of China. An eminent panel comprising Ms. Karen Hao, Bestselling Author of Empire of AI; Mr. Marcos Chow, Group Chief Information Officer, Hong Kong Telecom; Mr. Vivek Mohindra, Co-Founder, Kristal.Ai, moderated by Mr. Syed Musheer Ahmed, Co-Founder, IndiaTech Hong Kong, engaged in a stimulating discussion on the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.

The panel discussion covered key advancements in AI in recent years, highlighting the rapid shift from prompt-based generative models to autonomous agentic systems that operate without specific prompts and manage complex, multi-step tasks. Further, AI Models are no longer just growing larger; but they are also becoming smaller, faster, and more efficient, enabling broader use without heavy infrastructure. Multimodal and agentic systems are now capable of handling text, images, and voice seamlessly, while connectivity improvements allow AI to run directly on devices. Enterprises are adopting these tools at pace, with finance, education, customer service, and software leading the way. In emerging markets, particularly India, the emphasis is on lightweight local models and offline deployment to close the digital divide and make access more inclusive.

The discussion also highlighted pressing risks around responsibility, human oversight, data sovereignty, and liability. They stressed the need for regulators and firms to define clear accountability and ensure rigorous testing. The discussion concluded by drawing from the recent AI Impact Summit in India, with the path forward centering on responsible innovation for collective human benefit, open-source approaches, small culturally attuned models, and balanced regulation to drive equitable progress rather than widen divides.. The industry’s future lies in regulated, purpose-driven deployment, alongside building skills and affordable on-device solutions that ensure AI benefits are widely shared.
