Gandhi Jayanti - Oct. 2, 2022

At the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at the Consulate, CG Satwant Khanalia spoke of the values of truth and non-violence that were the guiding principles of Mahatma Gandhi & the Indian freedom struggle and the significance of charkha in the freedom movement. Guest of Honour Consul General of South Africa Mojalefa Mogono spoke of the South African sojourn of Mahatma Gandhi - his values of simplicity, nonviolence, and honesty & how he inspired Nelson Mandela. Gandhiji’s favourite hymns sung by ‘Little Indians’ immersed the audience in the eternally relevant message of peace and truth. Participants of all ages & backgrounds read out their essays on the subject ‘What Gandhi means to me. A quiz on factoids related to the life and values of Gandhi saw enthusiastic participation from the audience. A major draw at the celebrations was the ‘Selfie with Charkha'
